The important factors are the Daily Active Users.  As you notice, they are pretty much flatlined.  A few spikes are due to events and thus the reason why Kixeye wants to run more and more events.  I don't blame them.  In other games, they are weekly events.

Now, if you look at a popular game that has the right recipe, you will notice that Sim Socials (and I don't play this game) has enlisted more players in 1 month than all of Kixeye's games.

What is sad is that Kixeye has some good idea on how to create a game concept but they don't have a good long-term plan nor do they use some of the proven concepts in game designs to attract players.  Their current strategy is to give out prizes that get a counter to them 2-3 months later.

Some of those concepts can simply be that if you login every day and successfully attack a base, you can get 1 piece of gold.  Do it on a second day and you get 2 gold,..., up to a maximum of 5.  That ought to attract more players and force players be more offensive.

This whole strategy of $50-75 per boat or research is just not working that well.  While some people do coin, most don't.  I personally only coin repairs during raids, $10-15 is more than affordable for a weekend of fun.

My nephews were playing BYM and got fed up about the build time.  Kids don't wait 14 days for something to upgrade.

They started a base in BP and got very annoyed by glitches and stopped after 1 week.

What's annoying about BP is that they don't provide information about long term plan and the future tech tree.  It seems that they go on 2-3 month plan and if it doesn't work, they change the game around.

Personally, I went from 20+ hours of playing time last year down to about 4-5 hrs a week.

What I can see working for Kixeye would be to make a new version of BP 2.0 and rebuild the code under HTML5 instead of flash.  It would probably accelerate the game, be less heavy and maybe fix some of the glitches from the start.  But then again some of their decisions such as the glowing bubbles, waves and useless moving  graphics inside of bases really slow down the display and require a really good video card.  The game was using about 400-600 MB of memory to run last year.  It is now taking between 600 MB and 1.5 GB of RAM; no wonder people complains about slowness and lag.  I'm just happy they haven't added whales, orcas and dolphins in the ocean.
