General Discussion / Re: the new event
« on: August 16, 2012, 09:41:08 pm »
New event could be something like in War Commander.  Two types of events that would look similar to WC would be:

1- Get attacked by Dracs in 20-30 waves with increasing difficulty while having to repair your base and change guard fleets around

2- some kind of new Base Invader concept with new type of blueprints to find.

WC events were pretty fun and sometimes just impossible if you didn't prepare with the proper weapons.

Agreed.  I haven't redone my base in 9 months cause it takes too damn long.

The alliance feature, I have mixed feelings about it.  Those who like being in an alliance will love it.  But look around the sector and most people don't like to be in an alliance.  I personally don't like to have an alliance feature.

That's a move by FB.  And, each game can setup how much FB coin you can convert.

Just remember that FB stocks have lost about 40% since IPO so they are trying to stimulate income.

Could be a player that has been reset and gold given back.  However, he wouldn't have been around for the Gollie raid.  Report him, costs nothing to report.

I really hate the fact that this game started as a ballistic surface ship, changed to missile, then subs, then in base defenders and now magical spells.

Expect the cloaking device. laser beam and and gauss cannon to appear.  Then, they will come out with anti-cloaking, force shield and EMP to defeat them.

It's written in a polite form.  If they start closing stuff like that, then, their forum becomes pretty useless if people can't express their opinion politely.

Turning off anti-virus is pretty funny IMO.  Anti-virus usually have a gaming profile that pretty much turns off automatic update or scheduled scans.  That's what their tech support should suggest.  Also, they can white-list a s website so the anti-virus doesn't deep scan all files that are downloaded.

General Discussion / Re: Kixeye - Appdata
« on: August 02, 2012, 10:23:43 am »
My nephews were playing BYM and got fed up about the build time.  Kids don't wait 14 days for something to upgrade.

They started a base in BP and got very annoyed by glitches and stopped after 1 week.

What's annoying about BP is that they don't provide information about long term plan and the future tech tree.  It seems that they go on 2-3 month plan and if it doesn't work, they change the game around.

Personally, I went from 20+ hours of playing time last year down to about 4-5 hrs a week.

What I can see working for Kixeye would be to make a new version of BP 2.0 and rebuild the code under HTML5 instead of flash.  It would probably accelerate the game, be less heavy and maybe fix some of the glitches from the start.  But then again some of their decisions such as the glowing bubbles, waves and useless moving  graphics inside of bases really slow down the display and require a really good video card.  The game was using about 400-600 MB of memory to run last year.  It is now taking between 600 MB and 1.5 GB of RAM; no wonder people complains about slowness and lag.  I'm just happy they haven't added whales, orcas and dolphins in the ocean.

World of Battleship will look like the current NavyField.  And NavyField is coming out with a version 2.0 later this year which is 3D.

I prefer letting the attacker in and taking him out.  If they just come in to spam your dock or launchpad, that's a different story.

To answer your question, I consider it a frubble as you can rarely time it just right to have your friend hit your base and someone is able to take out the attacker's fleet.  But then again, in a real war, all tactics are valid.

General Discussion / Kixeye - Appdata

The important factors are the Daily Active Users.  As you notice, they are pretty much flatlined.  A few spikes are due to events and thus the reason why Kixeye wants to run more and more events.  I don't blame them.  In other games, they are weekly events.

Now, if you look at a popular game that has the right recipe, you will notice that Sim Socials (and I don't play this game) has enlisted more players in 1 month than all of Kixeye's games.

SimCity Social
http://www.appdata.com/apps/facebook/225496380820004-simcity-social

What is sad is that Kixeye has some good idea on how to create a game concept but they don't have a good long-term plan nor do they use some of the proven concepts in game designs to attract players.  Their current strategy is to give out prizes that get a counter to them 2-3 months later.

Some of those concepts can simply be that if you login every day and successfully attack a base, you can get 1 piece of gold.  Do it on a second day and you get 2 gold,..., up to a maximum of 5.  That ought to attract more players and force players be more offensive.

This whole strategy of $50-75 per boat or research is just not working that well.  While some people do coin, most don't.  I personally only coin repairs during raids, $10-15 is more than affordable for a weekend of fun.

Kix might be going for another round of funding.  Remember that last year, they raised some investments to expand their staff.   Now, in order to attract investors, it is best to keep a clean image.

Yes, I did noticed that the mods and CMs have been quicker on the trigger to lock or delete threads that are not "constructive" in their views.
